Review!

Djinn (Djinn, #1)Djinn by Laura  Catherine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely LOVED this book! It's well written, funny, romantic, and intriguing! I'm also in love with the cover (: I really liked all of the characters in this book. Will is such a gentlemen, which is pretty rare anymore. In a lot of books I've been reading lately the guy is always some huge bad ass with a soft heart. Will can kick some ass, but he is very caring and sweet. Kyra is an awesome heroine. She can handle herself, she's smart, and even though she's been through a lot, she never let's it get her down for long. The plot is very intriguing and tons of characters to fall for! I really enjoyed this "genie" world and can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

EXCERPT

Cole took hold of a
branch a few feet from Paris. “Do you think the alliance will stand?” He
shrugged. “Hard to say. I know everyone hopes so, so I hope so too.” Cole
pulled his eyebrows together. “But you don’t really care.”

Paris looked up
sharply. “Yes, I care. I care about my parents. They’ve been good to me and I
owe them a lot. I’m a freak by wolf standards, and my father has never abjured
me. I honestly believe he kept me separate for my well-being more than his own.
He acknowledges me as his son even though I remind him of his greatest sorrow.”

“Your panther mother.”
He nodded. “And Trixie isn’t a brave female. My existence is difficult for her,
but she’s been nothing but good to me. She had to stand against the combined
disapproval of a lot of other females for me. They didn’t know what I was, but
they knew I was Merced’s first wife’s son. They weren’t kind. She was. I value
her and want the best.”

Cole nodded. If there was one thing he understood,
it was loyalty.

“And then there’s you.”

Cole glanced up. Look
at that mischievous face. He’d switched from deeply serious to court jester in
one second flat. “What about me?” He grinned.

The cat danced around
his tree, unfastening buttons on his shirt with intricate skill. “You want the
alliance and I want you. Isn’t that an Aristotelian principle? If A equals B
and B equals C, then Paris wants Cole to have his alliance so Paris can have
Cole’s big yummy cock in his ass. An ass, I might add, that’s been throbbing
like a voodoo drum since I first looked in your silver eyes, wolfman.” He
whipped off the shirt, leaving his upper body bare.

Wow. Even knowing what
was coming, that sight was hard to believe. The cat’s skin glowed in the
moonlight like so much alabaster formed into a work of art. If you liked bulky,
you wouldn’t like Paris. But if the look of a black leopard stealing along a
branch stilled your heart, this sight would do it for you down to the ground.
Not really slim. More like lean, with muscles just where they should be, but as
if they were made of silk rather than stone. Fluid.

Paris reached and
grabbed a branch, then pulled himself up one-armed until he leaned over the
wood on his belly. Flip. He circled and came up to sitting, his upper body
glowing and long legs dangling. He spread his arms out for a second as if
balancing on a tightrope. Then he reached in and started to unfasten his belt.
Slowly, he slipped it from his trousers, then swung it over his head until it
caught on an upper branch.

He pulled himself to standing and used one
hand to slowly lower his fly. White showed in the gap. Oh my. Not white
underwear.  White skin. Cole shuddered.
He wasn’t used to this kind of sexy. Hell, who was? This cat was one of a kind.

Kade's Dark Embrace (Immortals of New Orleans, #1)Kade's Dark Embrace by Kym Grosso
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book was good, but I just couldn't connect with the main character. She was kind of annoying and self centered. It bothered me that she is lusting so much for Kade, but then hooks up with Tristan. Other than having a hard time connecting with Sydney, this was a good read. I enjoy almost every book about vampires and love that there's some weres in this book also. Kade is a vampire and Tristan, his old loyal friend, is an Alpha. We all know how sexy Alphas can be ;) Tristan calls his vampire friend because he suspects there is something seriously wrong going on in his territory. Unfortunately, there is a dead body now and so the human police get involved. Sydney, a homicide detective and Tristan's fuck buddy, gets put on the case and now she must work with the sexy, controlling vampire. Will she be able to stop lusting after him and focus on the case? Or will her fantasies get in the way and cause someone to get hurt? The book is well written and gets pretty steamy, which is just how I like my books! If your like me and enjoy hot sex scenes and kick ass characters then you'll enjoy this book.

Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was such a good read! I really liked the way the author wrote this book. The plot is interesting and makes you think what would we do if the world really did fall apart? Juliette is such an interesting character and I immediately connected with her. When she discovers that she can touch Adam without hurting him I was so elated. These two are perfect together! Adam is so hot, strong, smart, and romantic. This book made me feel happy, sad, and worried throughout the whole time I was reading it and I couldn't put it down. Shatter Me was an engrossing and enthralling read that I recommend to fans of Divergent. It'll keep you guessing what happens next & I'm really looking forward to reading the second book!

Review

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I LOVED it!! I'm not gonna lie, at first I was hesitant to read this book. I was like aliens in West Virginia? I'm from West Virginia and that sounds crazy to me, but I'm so glad I decided to give it a shot! Jennifer Armentrout did not disappoint. The main character, Dawson, is hot, funny, charming, protective, and an alien. His parents are dead so it's just him, his brother, and sister. His older brother, Daemon, doesn't like the fact that Dawson has fallen in love with a human girl. Bethany is the new girl in town and quickly falls for Dawson. Aliens and humans can mingle, but it's unheard of to have a serious relationship with one, it's just too dangerous. Bethany and Dawson decide to ignore everyone's protests and continue seeing each other, but one night ends in disaster. People get hurt, die, and even more end up with a broken heart.
I loved all the action, romance, and witty comments between the two brothers in this story. There were some tears shed at the end, but knowing that there is another book helps ease the pain. I highly recommend this book!

Rise of the Fallen (All the King's Men, #1)Rise of the Fallen by Donya Lynne
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a fantastic read! I came across this book as I was skimming Amazon for some FREE reads and the cover drew me in.. can we just take a moment to appreciate this hunk on the cover? Phew! This book turned out to be amazing and so much better than I thought it would be. Rise of the Fallen is packed with action, steamy sex, and vampires. Sam is ex military, she escaped from an abusive wealthy husband and is now an exotic dancer. Getting a new identity ain't cheap and she makes damn good money as a dancer. One night after work she sees a guy getting beat up and she decides to save him. One little act can change things forever, Sam had no idea what she just got herself involved in and with who. Micah is hot, dangerous, a guardian, and a vampire. He's going through a tough time and just as he is about to give up on life a short haired hottie turns up and saves him.  These two have an instant connection and can't seem to stay away from each other. I was addicted to the book immediately, I think fans of J.R. Ward would like this book. There is a little m/m action in this book and very detailed sex scenes so if those two things make you squeamish.. this is not the book for you. Personally, I love the steamy sex scenes.

Spark (Elemental, #2)Spark by Brigid Kemmerer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Gabriel is my favorite brother so I was ecstatic to read his story! This book was packed with action, betrayal, and bickering. I loved getting to see how Gabe thinks and sees everything. I never would have imagined him falling for a nerdy, shy girl, but they are perfect together, completely balance each other out! Gabriel is angry...very angry. He blames himself for the death of his parents, not being able to protect his brothers, and let's not forget about how he is failing high school. He's dealing with so much guilt and anger he is going to explode, but then Hunter comes along and gives him an outlet. They go into fires and save people that are left in the burning buildings. All he wants is to go into fires and spend time with the shy girl in his math class, but it's Gabriel and nothing is ever easy for the Merrick brothers. Between learning to control his element, getting framed for arson, convincing Layne he's genuinely into her, trying to pass math, and fix everything with his brothers Gabriel Merrick has a lot on his plate, but it's Gabriel and we all know he isn't the type of guy to back down from a challenge. I loved the bromance going on in this book with Hunter and am definitely looking forward to seeing what happens with Michael and Hannah!

Review

The AwakeningThe Awakening by Sophia Gray
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I started reading this book because I really liked the cover and it was a free read. It starts out telling you about Zoey and how she lives with her mother. Her father is dead, she never met him, and her mom is not very affectionate. Zoey feels alone, wondering what could she have possibly done to make her own mother hate her so much. Zoey's best friend, Ben, lives across the street and he is being physically abused by his father. They are bullied at home and at school, they only have each other. Ben is in love with Zoey, but she sees him more as a brother. After a really bad beating from a girl at school, strange things start to happen to Zoey. Once she starts going through some changes I thought there would be some action, more explanation of how she is a vampire, but no. As soon as things start to pick up the book ends, which I sorta understand because there is a sequel, but the ending left me confused and unsure exactly what's going on. At one point in the story Zoey thinks about dating Ben, but quickly realizes that she doesn't have feelings like that for him, but once she becomes a vampire she wants to only drink his blood, which someone explains to her that it's because when you first awaken as a vampire you want to drink the blood of the person you are the most attracted to. After having Zoey clearly make it known throughout the book that she loves Ben like a brother and doesn't have romantic feelings for him it didn't make sense to me. I feel like this could have been a good book, but the ending seemed like it was jut thrown together and left me more confused than intrigued.

Cover Reveal!

Here's the first look at Jocelyn Stover's second book in the Wanderer series! (:

Blurb:
“Time...such a cruel mistress of fate. What we do with ours can either enrich our lives or destroy them, and we mortals never seem to have enough. The right time, our time, was too little and over much too quickly.”

When Gwen turns her back on a set of smoldering amber eyes in favor of a crystal blue pair, her plan is to sever all ties with the Wanderers. Her goodbye is short lived; however, when the investigation into Preston-Ward Pharmaceuticals reveals a powerful sylph has escaped. When Gwen is drawn back into the Wanderer brotherhood for her own protection she discovers she can no longer bury her feelings for Kade or ignore the growing gulf between her and Ben. As the unrelenting hunt for their ancient enemy heats up, Gwen’s attempt to straddle two worlds becomes tedious. She must choose, but when nephilim mysteriously begin to disappear her time may be up.
